PASAY, Philippines - Iris Mittenaere (24; 1.73m; Lille, FRANCE) was crowned Miss Universe 2016 at the conclusion of the 65th Miss Universe finals held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Philippines on January 30, 2017. Raquel Pélissier (Haiti) was the first runner-up and Jealisse Andrea Tovar Velásquez (Colombia) was the second runner-up. Mary Esther Were (Kenya), Maria Mika Maxine Perez Medina (Philippines) and Chalita Suansane (Thailand) completed the top six finalists.
Siera Bearchell (Canada), Yuselmi Kristal Silva Dávila (Mexico) and Deshauna Barber (United States) were the top nine semifinalists. Raíssa Oliveira Santana (Brazil), Kezia Roslin Cikita Warouw (Indonesia), Keity Drennan Britton (Panama) and Valeria Piazza Vásquez (Peru) were the top thirteen quarterfinalists. Chalita Suansane (Thailand) made the top thirteen as a result of a popular vote.

Lindita Idrizi (Albania) won Miss Photogenic, Htet Htet Hun (Myanmar) won the Best National Costume award and Jenny Kim (South Korea) won Miss Congeniality. 86 contestants competed for the crown. The returning nations were Barbados (2007), Belize (2007), Guam (2014), Iceland (2009), Kazakhstan (2014), Kenya (2014), Malta (2001), Namibia (2013), Romania (2013), Slovenia (2014), Sri Lanka (2014), Switzerland (2014), and the United States Virgin Islands (2011). The nations that competed in 2015 but not in 2016 were El Salvador, Gabon, Ghana, Greece, Ireland, Lebanon, Montenegro and Serbia.
