OXON HILL, Maryland, United States - Stephanie Marie del Valle Díaz (19; 1.78m; San Juan, PUERTO RICO) was crowned Miss World 2016 at the conclusion of the 66th Miss World finals held at The Theater at MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland, United States on December 18. She is Puerto Rico's second Miss World and the first since 1975. Yaritza Miguelina Reyes Ramírez (Dominican Republic) was the first runner-up and Natasha Mannuela Halim (Indonesia) was the second runner-up. Catriona Elisa Magnayon Gray (Philippines) and Evelyn Njambi Thungu (Kenya) finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Lenty Frans (Belgium), Beatrice Bezerra da Fontoura (Brazil), Kong Jing (China), Bayartsetseg Altangerel (Mongolia), Wang Hyeon (South Korea) and Audra Diane Mari (United States) were the top eleven semifinalists. Mongolia advanced to the top eleven via the Miss World People's Choice popular vote.

 Madeline Cowe (Australia), Natalia Asinata Simahite Short (Cook Islands), Morgane Edvige (France), Antoinette Delali Kemavor (Ghana), Tímeát Gelencsér (Hungary), Priyadarshini Chatterjee (India), Priyanka Yoshikawa (Japan), Kristína Činčurová (Slovakia) and Jinnita Buddi (Thailand) were the top twenty quarterfinalists. 

Miss World Africa 2016 is Evelyn Njambi Thungu (Kenya), Miss World Americas 2016 is Audra Diane Mari (United States), Miss World Asia 2016 is Natasha Mannuela Halim (Indonesia), Miss World Caribbean 2016 is Yaritza Miguelina Reyes Ramírez (Dominican Republic), Miss World Europe 2016 is Lenty Frans (Belgium) and Miss World Oceania 2016 is Madeline Cowe (Australia).

Miss World Top Model 2016 is Kong Jing (China), Miss World Talent 2016 is Bayartsetseg Altangerel (Mongolia), Miss World Multimedia 2016 is Catriona Elisa Magnayon Gray (Philippines), Miss World Sportswoman 2016 is Natalia Asinata Simahite Short (Cook Islands) and Miss World Beauty with a Purpose 2016 is Natasha Mannuela Halim (Indonesia).

117 nations competed for the crown. Julie Frankline Cheugueu Nguimfack (Cameroon), Soliyana Assefa (Ethiopia) and Samantha Rodriguez Todivelo (Madagascar) withdrew from the competition due to visa issues. Rwanda debuted this year. The returning nations were Antigua and Barbuda (2008), Belarus (2014), Canada (2014), Cayman Islands (2011), Cook Islands (1990), Democratic Republic of the Congo (2008), Egypt (2014), Equatorial Guinea (2014), Ghana (2014), Guinea-Bissau (2013), Israel (2014), Saint Lucia (2010) and Sierra Leone (2012). The nations that competed in 2015 but not in 2016 were Bermuda, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Gabon, Macedonia, Namibia, Norway, Samoa, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Zambia and Zimbabwe. 

The judges of the finals were Julia Morley (President and CEO of Miss World Ltd), Mike Dixon (Miss World official composer and musical director), Ken Warwick (Television executive producer and director), Andrew Minarik (Miss World official head of make-up and styling), Donna Walsh (Miss World official choreographer), Liliana Tanaja Tanoesoedibjo (Head of Jalinan Kasih RCTI and Miss World national director in Indonesia), Wilnelia Merced Forsyth (Miss World 1975 from Puerto Rico), Linda Pétursdóttir (Miss World 1988 from Iceland), Azra Akin (Miss World 2002 from Turkey), Ksenia Sukhinova (Miss World 2008 from Russia) and Carina Tyrell (Miss England 2014 and Top 5 finalist of Miss World 2014).

NATIONAL HARBOR, Maryland, United States - Bayartsetseg Altangerel (Mongolia) was named Miss World Talent 2016 after winning a mobile app vote organized by Mobstar. She's now fast tracked to the semifinals of Miss World 2016 by earning a place in the top 20. The winning performance was a magic and quick-change act. It is the first time since 2009 that a non-singing performance earns the Miss World Talent title and it is also the first time that Mongolia wins a challenge event.

Miss World 2016: Third Week

MISS WORLD 2016: Third Week in the United States

During their last night at the Hyatt Regency Washington D.C. on Capitol Hill, the contestants participated in a special viewing where 24 of the Beauty with a Purpose projects were presented in the presence of Julia Morley, president and CEO of Miss World Ltd.

The 117 contestants of Miss World 2016 left Washington D.C. to National Harbor, Maryland. They were greeted by Entertainment Cruises and enjoyed a private cruise along the Potomac River from the Diamond Teague Park in Navy Yard to the National Harbor on board the National Elite. The Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center received the contestants as the host hotel for the final leg of the competition.
The Prince George's County Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, Maryland served as the host of Miss World Sportswoman 2016. The qualifiers competed in groups to determine the overall winner after a series of challenges. Miss World Sportswoman 2016 was Natalia Asinata Simahite Short from the Cook Islands who is now fast tracked to the semifinals of Miss World 2016. For full results click here!
Later in the week, Anastasia Lin from Canada was given the opportunity of addressing the national media about her Beauty with a Purpose project about organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners in China. She also attended the premiere of The Bleeding Edge, a movie that also addresses the issue. She was featured in newspapers such as The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Boston Globe.
The contestants took part in interviews, filming and rehearsals for the finale at the MGM National Harbor. They also enjoyed a dress designer dinner at the Potomac Ballroom of the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center where they all showcased their gowns by designers from their own countries.
Miss World 2015, Mireia Lalaguna from Spain, visited the Paul Public Charter School in northwest Washington D.C. where she donated a book from each of the 117 nations represented in the international pageant for a World Library.
 The week concluded with the contestants taking part in a fashion show to select Miss World Top Model 2016 at the MGM National Harbor. Also, the winner of Miss World Talent 2016, the winner of Miss World Multimedia 2016 and the finalists of Miss World Beauty with a Purpose 2016 were announced. She's now fast tracked to the semifinals of Miss World 2016 by earning a spot in the Top 20. It is the first time that Cook Islands wins a challenge event and it is also the first time that Cook Islands makes the semifinals of Miss World. Miss Kazakhstan 2016
ASTANA, Kazakhstan - Gulbanu Azimkhanova (18) was crowned Miss Kazakhstan 2016 at the Palace of Peace and Reconciliation in Astana on December 10. She will represent Kazakhstan in Miss World 2017. The first runner-up was Yelnaz Nurseitova and the second runner-up was Zhanar Naymanbaeva.

Miss World 2016: Second Week

MISS WORLD 2016: Second Week in the United States


New York, New York
After the opening ceremony of Miss World 2016, the 117 contestants went to the National Harbor to meet with the United States Dream Academy at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center. The United States Dream Academy offers support and care to children with incarcerated parents.
The MetroCooking DC event hosted the Miss World 2016 contestants at the Washington Convention Center in Mt. Vernon Square. A group of contestants from each continental region were selected to face off in a cooking competition. 

The Caribbean was represented by Aruba - Lynette Fatima Agrela Do Nascimento, Cayman Islands - Monyque Roshel Brooks, Jamaica - Ashlie Victoria White Barrett and Saint Lucia - La Toya Moffat. Asia was represented by Japan - Priyanka Yoshikawa, Indonesia - Natasha Mannuela Halim, Mongolia - Bayartsetseg Altangerel and Sri Lanka - Amritaa De Silva. The Americas was represented by Argentina - Camila Macías Carusillo, Paraguay - Simone Patricia Freitag Krutzman, Peru - Pierina Sue Wong Mori and United States - Audra Diane Mari. Oceania was represented by Australia - Madeline Cowe, Cook Islands - Natalia Asinata Simahite Short, Fiji - Pooja Priyanka and New Zealand - Karla de Beer. Africa was represented by Guinea - Safiatou Baldé, Kenya - Evelyn Njambi Thungu, Lesotho - Rethabile Anacletta Tšosane and South Africa - Ntandoyenkosi Kunene. Europe was represented by Denmark - Helena Heuser, Hungary - Tímeát Gelencsér, Malta - Anthea Zammit and Slovakia - Kristína Činčurová. The Caribbean team won the challenge.

Later in the week, the group of semifinalists of Miss World Talent 2016 was narrowed down to a group of ten finalists. Miss World Talent 2016 will be chosen via voting through the Mobstar mobile app and the winner will be fast tracked to the semifinals of Miss World 2016.

 The contestants traveled from Washington, D.C. up north to New York, New York where they enjoyed a Bateaux New York cruise aboard the Bateaux Celestial around Manhattan with scenic views of the Statue of Liberty, the World Trade Center, the Brooklyn Bridge and other highlights of the New York skyline. After the cruise concluded, the contestants went to the Winter Garden Theater on Broadway to watch School of Rock. This was followed by a walking tour of the surrounding areas including Times Square, the Rockefeller Center and Radio City Music Hall.




A group of 22 contestants attended the grand opening ceremony of the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland where the 66th Miss World finals will take place on December 18. The glittering gala also had the presence of Miss World 2015, Mireia Lalaguna.



Later in the week, the 117 contestants did a walking tour of some of the highlights of Washington D.C. including the White House, the National Mall and the Washington Monument.



Finally it was time for the Miss World Sportswoman 2016 eliminations. After a series of try outs, the Miss World Sportswoman 2016 finalists were chosen and they are:

The contestants from Madagascar (Samantha Rodriguez Todivelo) and Ethiopia (Soliyana Assefa) officially withdrew from the competition both due to visa issues. In the case of Madagascar, she was denied a transit visa to go through Réunion on her way to Washington D.C.
