News from Miss Mundo de Puerto Rico 2014

Miss Mundo de Puerto Rico 2014 will be crowned on August 13 at the Luis A. Ferré Theater of the School of the Performing Arts in Guaynabo. 22 contestants will compete for the title and the chance of representing Puerto Rico in Miss World 2014 in London, England on December 14. The national pageant -and the international pageant- will be televised live on Univision Puerto Rico. 
During the upcoming weeks, the contestants will take part in seminars on topics about beauty, health, etiquette, modeling and fitness. The challenge events will take place between August 4 and 13. The municipality of Dorado will host some of the challenge events and others will take place at the Condado Plaza Hilton, the official hotel of the pageant. The Beach Beauty and Top Model challenge events will take place on August 5 and 6, respectively. The Sports and Talent challenges will occur on August 7 and 8, respectively. The Beauty with a Purpose gala will be held on August 9. The details of the event were revealed by Shanira Blanco, executive director of Miss Mundo de Puerto Rico, and Malule González, vice-president of Univision Puerto Rico, at the Eternal Lobby Lounge of the Condado Plaza Hilton in San Juan. Also present at the event were Delia Cruz, license holder of Miss World in Puerto Rico; Nadyalee Torres López, Miss Mundo de Puerto Rico 2013; and Alberto Horacio Martínez Kezner, Mister World Puerto Rico 2014 and Top 10 Finalist of Mister World 2014.
The contestants of Miss Mundo de Puerto Rico 2014 are: Wilmarie Rosado (Adjuntas), Génesis Dávila (Arroyo), Sherly Rivera (Bayamon), Lety Pérez (Caguas), Shalymar Otero (Canovanas), Kassandra Meléndez (Carolina), Rebeca Valentin (Dorado), Génesis Santiago (Guayama), Gabriela Pérez (Guaynabo), Noelia Hernández (Gurabo), Dalmar Ramos (Isabela), Sherlin Aguirre (Juana Diaz), Anne Alvarado (Juncos), Julissanet Cruz (Lajas), Cinderee Cruz (Loiza), Jehanna López (Luquillo), Jelianie Hernández (Orocovis), Darli Arni Pacheco (Ponce), Lyannelys Rodríguez (Rio Grande), Laura Irizarry (San Juan), Francheska Toro (Toa Baja) and Tershya Soto (Yabucoa).

After a 17-year drought, Puerto Rico returned the semifinals of Miss World in 2002. Ever since, the island has witnessed a renaissance in the international pageant with one quarterfinalist (2012), six semifinalists (2002, 2003, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010) and two second runners-up (2005, 2011). Puerto Rico won Miss World back in 1975 with Wilnelia Merced Cruz.
