SLOVENIA | 2012 Meet the Misses e.36 - Miss Slovenije 2012

Slovenia is located on Central Europe touching the Alps and bordering the Mediterranean Sea. It was one of the republics that comprised the former Yugoslavia until 1991 and it is the richest of all Slavic nations. Around half of the country is covered by forests including the famous Triglav National Park, named after their highest peak Mount Triglav. This mountain is the preeminent symbol of Slovenia. This nation is the merging point of the Alps, the Dinarides, the Pannonian Plains and the Mediterranean. All four provide different landscapes that diversify the country's natural resources. Slovenia have many Baroque and Venetian Gothic buildings and has several towns that date from the Middle Ages which exemplify the long history of this nation. Slovenia is a largely secularized nation and throughout history has been a meeting area of four linguistic and cultural groups of the continent: Slavic, Germanic, Romance and Uralic.  The nation debuted in Miss World back in 1992 and this year Nives Orešnik, Miss Slovenije 2012, will try to reach the finals of Miss World for the first time.

The Times of Beauty proudly presents Nives Orešnik, Miss Slovenije 2012, in an exclusive interview for our interview series, Meet the Misses.

1.    Give us an introduction of yourself, your country and your hometown.
I'm a 20 years old student at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, working as a model. After getting a degree in painting I plan to study design and get education abroad. I'm a former gymnast and acrobat, who loves to dance. I love concerts, exhibitions and good movies. My country is small, but far from simple. It has a big variety of places, a lot of nature, small cities. Most of the people here are kind and simple. I think Slovenia could work more on tourism, since it's a very beautiful country. We don't have a rich history nor big cultural or historical achievements, but we have a beautiful place, important people, wonderful architecture, and many interesting and successful individuals. My hometown is the second bigest city in Slovenia. It's called Maribor and is this year's European capital of culture. Maribor just had it's biggest festival called Lent going on for two weeks. The city centre has nice old style buildings, some of them do need repair, but the city has it's spirit.

2.    What are your plans for the future?
My plans are to finish my studies, to continue my education as much as I can, to succeed as an artist. My secret wish is to make cartoons. I like comercial stuff, but also I wish to have success as an independent artist, with my own exhibitions and my own passion for art. I also want to work harder as a model, I plan to work more abroad in the coming months. I want to become even more independent as soon as I can. I love my family but I love the challenge of having an independent life.

3.    What are you most proud of?
My recent life and what I achieved in the last two years.

4.    Which activities make you lose track of time?
Dancing, listening to music, painting, spending time with my family and friends.

5.    If somebody was describing your personality what would they say?
Happy, willing to help, natural. For more, ask people around. :)

6.    What is something you know you do differently than themost other people?
That's a tough question. I think every person in unique in it's own way. But I think that a good answer maybe is to talk about my talents. I have a talent for drawing and I'm good in sports.

7.    Have you done anything memorable lately?
I've organised my first charity event. I succesfully finished this school year.

8.    Which is worse, failing or never trying? Why?
Never trying. I personally cannot stand living in doubt. I cannot sleep and I'm not calm until I try.

9.    If you could teach anyone anything, what would that be?
Be patient and opened. Be open minded.

10.    How do you define beauty? How will you prepare for Miss World to achieve your vision of beauty?
I think that beauty is a right combination of personal trendiness and taking care of yourself what includes being fit, healthy, feeling well, and your inner energy and your character. The poblem of beauty is that ideals are changing with time. And we always face the problem of defining beauty. We meet the same issue when it comes to art. What is beautiful and what is not. It's hard to judge and hard to define but that's why beauty has it's magic, because we can not catch it in our palms.
