PERU | 2012 Meet the Misses e.23 - Miss Perú World 2012

The majestic Peru is located in western South America. It is the cradle of the Inca civilization which was the largest empire in pre-Columbian America. This civilization left numerous landmarks that are considered historical and cultural sanctuaries. The Andes Mountains runs parallel to the Pacific Ocean and divide the country into three regions: the coast, the mountains and the jungle. Despite being located near the Equator, Peru does not have exclusively tropical climates, the influence from the Andes cause great diversity within the country. Peru is a multiethnic country formed by different groups over centuries influenced by Amerindians, European, Africans and Asians. Its culture is primarily rooted in Amerindian and Spanish traditions. Some of the artistic traditions date back to the Pre-Inca cultures. The Incas maintained these traditions but made architectural achievements including the construction of Machu Picchu, a landmark of Peru and the icon of the Inca world. Peru debuted in Miss World 1959 and produced two winners: Madeline Hartog-Bel in 1967 and María Julia Mantilla García in 2004. This year, Peru will be represented by Guiliana Myriam Zevallos Roncagliolo, Miss Perú World 2012.

The Times of Beauty proudly presents Guiliana Myriam Zevallos Roncagliolo, Miss Perú World 2012, in an exclusive interview for our interview series, Meet the Misses.

1. Give us an introduction of yourself, your country and your hometown.
Talking about my country is talking about of ethnic, cultural and biological diversity, which makes Peru bigger and richer. However, the great richness of Peru is in its people, we are very creative and courageous.

2. What are your plans for the future?
I would like to find the perfect fusion of what I do nowadays, in other words, mix my work as a model and as a beauty queen with my career in medicine. I aspire to create a clinic where I can serve people from different social-economic backgrounds and work hard to foment beauty as a consequence of living a healthy life. This is a project that I will do in the near future.

3. What are you most proud of?
I am proud of reaching this period of my life with a lot of effort and with the help from God, my family, and other people that trusted in my capabilities such as the Miss Peru Organization presided by Mr. Ernesto Paz, who proposed me this new challenge in my life.

4. Which activities make you lose track of time?
Everything that I feel passionate about makes me lose track of time. Besides losing track of time, I don’t feel tiredness and I am not aware of what’s happening around me. For example, one day at the university, a photo shooting or a day working as a beauty queen where I have contact with people, are moments that ignite passion in me to the point that time flies by and I never get tired.

5. If somebody was describing your personality what would they say?
They would say that I am a hard working person, proactive and with great values. I treasure everything that I learn at my house and what I learned will always be visible through my actions.

6. What is something you know you do differently than the most other people?
Everything that I do, I do it thinking in my goals and that’s why I put a lot of effort and passion.

7. Have you done anything memorable lately?
Approximately two years ago I lived of the most memorable moments in my live in Ecuador. One day after my birthday, I received an incredible gift, winning the Miss Continente Americano pageant. I felt great for this achievement which filled my country with pride.

8. Which is worse, failing or never trying? Why?
Failure is a consequence of a series of actions. Technically, it makes us closer to our objectives because we know what road we must never take again to reach success. Therefore, I prefer to try even with the risk of failure than not trying at all.

9. If you could teach anyone anything, what would that be?
I would give my personal testimony that whatever you value the most is what you achieved with the greatest effort. By working hard to be better people is how you understand the purpose of life.

10. How do you define beauty? How will you prepare for Miss World to achieve your vision of beauty?
For me, beauty is a complex of traits that makes a person interesting. In that note, in order to become interesting to the eyes of the judges, I’ve had to improve in some areas, or better yet, correct some mistakes in the past, develop new abilities and work with the abilities I already have intensively.
