NORTHERN IRELAND | 2012 Meet the Misses e.19 - Miss Northern Ireland 2012

Northern Ireland is one of the four constituent countries of the United Kingdom. Situated in the northeast of the island of Ireland, Northern Ireland consists of six of the nine counties of the Irish province of Ulster. It was created as a distinct division of the United Kingdom on 1921. For over 50 years it had its own devolved government and parliament but it were abolished in 1973. Repeated attempts to restore self-government finally resulted in the establishment of the Northern Ireland Executive and Northern Ireland Assembly in 1998. Northern Ireland was covered by an ice sheet for most of the last ice age, the legacy of which can be seen in the extensive coverage of drumlins. The centerpiece of Northern Ireland's geography is Lough Neagh, the largest freshwater lake both on the island of Ireland and in the British Isles. Northern Ireland's volcanic activity formed the eerily geometric pillars of the Giant's Causeway on the north Antrim coast.  The valley of the River Lagan is dominated by Belfast, whose metropolitan area includes over a third of the population of Northern Ireland, with heavy urbanization and industrialization along the Lagan Valley and both shores of Belfast Lough. The whole of Northern Ireland has a temperate maritime climate, rather wetter in the west than the east, although cloud cover is persistent across the region. Northern Ireland debuted in Miss World 2000 and placed thrice in the semifinals. Northern Ireland will be represented this year by Tiffany Brien, Miss Northern Ireland 2012.

The Times of Beauty proudly presents Tiffany Brien, Miss Northern Ireland 2012, in an exclusive interview for our interview series, Meet the Misses.

1. Give us an introduction of yourself, your country and your hometown.
I am 21 years old, and a Marketing student at the University of Ulster. I am a keen sportswoman and compete mostly in the sport of sailing and netball. I have lived in a town called Holywood in County Down all my life. I love living in Northern Ireland, it is a small country but with lots of things going for it. It is such a beautiful place to live with plenty of sights to see, and I plan to settle down here when I am older.

2. What are your plans for the future?
This year is all about Miss Northern Ireland and making the most of it. After this year I plan to go back to University and finish off my Marketing degree. I hope to pursue a career either in the marketing industry or in the media. My dream job would be a sports presenter!

3. What are you most proud of?
I am most proud of achieving my goals. I set myself targets that I want to reach in life and I commit myself to them. Apart from my sailing achievements, I am most proud of winning the Miss Northern Ireland title as it is something completely new to me that I picked up and focussed on, and I hope to do a really good job this year!

4. Which activities make you lose track of time?
Anything to do with fitness, I say I am going to the gym or for a sail for an hour.... It never ends up being an hour! It is my way of chilling out and relaxing, I sometimes get carried away!

5. If somebody was describing your personality what would they say?
I think people would describe me as driven and determined. Everyone who knows me knows that I am 100% goal driven and no matter what environment I put myself in I always try to be the best.

6. What is something you know you do differently than the most other people?
I am overly meticulous about things, I am a perfectionist! I can never do a job by half, no matter what it is!

7. Have you done anything memorable lately?
Apart from the Open + Direct Miss Northern Ireland Final weeks ago... No! I don't think anything can top that for a while!

8. Which is worse, failing or never trying? Why?
Never trying! I never don't give anything a go, there has been plenty of things I have done and failed at, but is is better to know you have tried it rather than not given it a go! I would live life regretting not pushing myself. Plus you'll never succeed if you don't try!

9. If you could teach anyone anything, what would that be?
I would teach the youth of today the value of being driven in life. About having dreams and realising that nothing is out of reach if you put your mind to it.

10. How do you define beauty? How will you prepare for Miss World to achieve your vision of beauty?
Beauty is everything about a person, not just is what is on the outside, a beautiful person needs to loving, caring and generous on the inside. In my opinion what is on the inside means a lot more than what is on the outside. For Miss World I plan to continue being me, I don't think there is any need to change who you are or to try and fit into a preconceived box that someone has thought of. At Miss World it is all about being yourself and that is what I am going to do.

11. Share a message to your supporters and readers of The Times of Beauty.
I am honoured to be representing my beautiful country of Northern Ireland, and hope to do everyone who supports me proud. I plan to make the most of any opportunity that comes my way and live this year to the full!
