NICARAGUA | 2012 Meet the Misses e.38 - Miss Mundo Nicaragua 2012

Nicaragua is truly deserving of the poetic description as “The Land of Lakes and Volcanoes”. It is the heart of Central America, situated at the very center of the Americas. Nicaragua is neatly tucked between two oceans, where you can enjoy the natural beauty of dozens of volcanoes, rivers, and lakes. The country has three regions with very different weather, geography, and population: Pacific Region, Central Region, and the Caribbean Region. The many natural wonders of Nicaragua include the calm waters of Lake Cocibolca, an immense lake with the wonder of over three hundred islands and home of the only fresh water sharks in the world. Not only do many lakes and lagoons exist throughout the country, an impressive line of volcanoes also runs from north to south. There is a great variety among these volcanoes; some have huge smoking crater mouths whereas other volcanoes were blown away in violent eruptions thousands of years ago, leaving behind nothing more than a tranquil crater lake. There are Spanish colonial cities and archaeological treasures dating back from many centuries. Nicaragua is home to 78 protected areas covering over 20% of it landmass, and is home to 7% of the world's biodiversity. The country is also home to Bosawas, located in Northern Nicaragua, which is the largest rainforest north of the Amazon. Nicaragua debuted in Miss World 1960 and produced a 3rd runner-up in 2001. This year, Lauren Gabrielle Lawson Guerrero will be the face of Nicaragua in Miss World 2012 in Ordos.

The Times of Beauty proudly presents Lauren Gabrielle Lawson Guerrero, Miss Mundo Nicaragua 2012, in an exclusive interview for our interview series, Meet the Misses.

1. Give us an introduction of yourself, your country and your hometown.
I am defined by my ambitions and perseverance, outshining in every challenge in front of me. From my childhood to nowadays, I’ve been blessed with the experience of the Nicaraguan culture that I proudly represent. I love my nurse career; it is a gift to be able to help those in need. I am one of the people that take whatever distance just to see someone smiling. I am in favor of those that believe in making a difference. My vision of future is to continue discovering the undiscovered and live life to the fullest.
I was born in San Francisco, California and when I was 7 years old, my family decided to move to Nicaragua. When I turned 15, I went back to the United States to finish my secondary school and get a college education graduating with a Bachelors degree in Nursing from the University of Miami. In 2011, I had the experience of participating in Miss Nicaragua and finish as the first runner-up. Ever since, I’ve been living in Nicaragua enjoying the culture that surrounded me during my childhood years.
My hometown is Granada. My maternal grandmother was born and raised in this city. Most of my childhood memories are in this city which is one of the biggest tourism attractions of Nicaragua with its colonial heritage, marvelous architecture, lakes, islands and volcanoes. I am proud of calling Granada, Nicaragua my hometown.

2. What are your plans for the future?
-To stand out in the best way posible to have an impacting performance in my life and obtain experience of the unimaginable.
-Achieve making a difference in the quality of the service and attention of the patients in the hospital where I work nowadays.
-Create a foundation for elderly people.
-Collaborate and be part of environmental projects to promote an eco-green country.
-Continue to be successful and perseverant to become an example to the people of my country.

3. What are you most proud of?
What makes me feel the proudest is the day where I graduated of my Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of Miami. Looking back, from where I started to be interested in nursing, when my mother and I helped my nana to give birth in our home and my sleepless nights studying and the long and hard days working in a pediatric clinic. I look back to the day of my graduation and I say to myself: YOU DID IT. This was a moment that changed my life forever because when hope was slim and the road looked eternal, it was my ambition and perseverance what helped me to reach my goal and be who I am today.

4. Which activities make you lose track of time?
My job, the motivation and interest in continuing with my projects to improve the hospital where I work makes me lose track of time. Organizing is another activity that makes me lose track of time. Handle to me a room that is a disastrous mess, and I will take the time to organize it.

5. If somebody was describing your personality what would they say?
Lauren Lawson Guerrero is a happy, sincere and determined person. She is a loving person that received life with a smile and always see the positive side in everything.

6. What is something you know you do differently than the most other people?
I am someone that can take whatever distance just to see someone smiling. I feel happy when others are happy.

7. Have you done anything memorable lately?
Collaborate with an ophthalmological and deontological team at the Managua Central Hospital, hospital where I work.
It was an unforgettable experience where we could offer dental services and eye surgery completely free to people of few resources. It is indescribable the feeling of improving someone’s lifestyle.

8. Which is worse, failing or never trying? Why?
Never try. Life is short to not try something. If fear of failing is what causes not to try, How do you know that you are going to fail if you never try? If you fail, you learn and you try again.

9. If you could teach anyone anything, what would that be?
The human warmth is a characteristic of Nicaragua and that is why I proudly represent my country to promote it in other parts of the world. There is nothing more significant than helping others because you really want to help and the desire comes from your heart. Not for yourself, but for the satisfaction of others.

10. How do you define beauty? How will you prepare for Miss World to achieve your vision of beauty?
I can respond to this in a general way by giving the definition of what everyone think is beauty: “Beauty is not defined by outer beauty, but by inner beauty”. But I wouldn’t be sincere if I don’t answer the same thing. Beauty goes beyond physical anatomy and psychology. Beauty shines in those who have it. Beauty is beliefs, values, ethics and beyond everything, personality. To reach my vision of beauty in Miss World 2012, I will be myself, always taking in consideration other factors.

11. Share a message to your supporters and readers of The Times of Beauty.
Continue fighting for what you want and desire. When you least imagine it, you will get it. You’ll look back to your efforts and sacrifices and you’ll say to yourselves: “It was worth it and if I had to do it again, I would”
