ICELAND | 2012 Meet the Misses e.33 - Miss World Iceland 2012

Iceland is a European island country in the north Atlantic Ocean on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. It has a population of about 320,000 and a total area of 103,000 square kilometers. The capital and the largest city is Reykjavík. Iceland is volcanically and geologically active. The interior mainly consists of a plateau characterized by sand fields, mountains and glaciers, while many glacial rivers flow to the sea through the lowlands. Iceland is warmed by the Gulf Stream and has a temperate climate despite a high latitude just outside the Arctic Circle. In recent years, Iceland has been one of the wealthiest and most developed nations in the world. Icelandic culture is founded upon the nation's Norse heritage. Most Icelanders are descendants of Norse and Gaelic settlers. In geological terms Iceland is very young. The landscape is alive with the restless play of nature's forces. In some places where swirling glacial rivers race over rugged terrain on their way seaward, the scenery looks custom-built for river rafting. Glaciers cover one-ninth of Iceland's land surface. Vatnajokull, at 3,300 square miles, is the largest glacier in Europe. Other glacier favorites are the mystical Snaefellsjokull on Snaefellsnes peninsula, Myrdalsjokull on the south coast, and Langjokull where west Iceland borders the highlands, the closest major glacier to the capital, Reykjavik. Reykjavik, the world’s northernmost capital city, is just as much a part of the Icelandic experience as the midnight sun or the magical moonlike landscapes of the interior. Iceland debuted in Miss World 1955 and produced three winners: Holmfridur Karlsdóttir (1985), Linda Pétursdóttir (1988) and Unnur Birna Vilhjálmsdóttir (2005). This year Íris Telma Jónsdóttir, Miss World Iceland 2012, will represent Iceland at the 62nd Miss World pageant.

The Times of Beauty proudly presents Íris Telma Jónsdóttir, Miss World Iceland 2012, in an exclusive interview for our interview series, Meet the Misses.

1. Give us an introduction of yourself, your country and your hometown.
My name is Íris Telma Jónsdóttir, 21 years old and I am representing my beautiful country Iceland in Miss World 2012. I live in a little town in Iceland called Hafnarfjörður, my mom, dad and my little brother also live there. My brother is my only sibling and I was 14 years old when i finally got a sibling, I had wished for a brother or sister every night for 10 years. I have recently finished my education in Snyrtiakademían where I studied the beauty therapist and I work as one in my hometown. I love sports, especially handball which I used to play for many years with my team in Iceland, Haukar and I also love football. I love traveling, both around Iceland which is a amazing and very beautiful but also around the world where i can get to know new culturs. My family are very close and I love to spend time with my family and friends. I‘m really open, honest, happy girl and I‘m very thankful for life and that opportunity to travel all the way to China and represent Iceland.
Iceland is an island in the north atlantic ocean which has a population of about 320.000. Iceland mainly consists of sand, lava fields, mountains and glaciers. Volcanically and geologically my country is active and lately we have been aware of that. The weather in Iceland is pretty strange it‘s raining one minute, sun the other minute and then snowing after that, you can have all kinds of weather just in a one day in Iceland, but in the summer time it is bright all day and all night.
My hometown Hafnarfjörður is a port town, 10 km south of Reykjavík. Hafnarfjörður is the third largest city in Iceland. It is known as one of the most popular residences for elves in Iceland, the town is built on lava and around huge boulders, which are believed to be homes for elves. There are two major sport clubs in Hafnarfjörður, FH and Haukar. Haukar have a magnificent history in handball with many titles.

2. What are your plans for the future?
Now that I have finished the beauty therapist, I would like to open my own beauty salon and maybe learn something more in that category. I always wanted to become a beauty therapist since I was a little girl but I also wanted to beacome a doctor so maybe I‘ll go to school again and study the doctor in the future. I really hope that I‘ll have a big happy family and great health in my future.

3. What are you most proud of?
I‘m very proud that I got that opportunity to go for my country, Iceland to Miss World.
My proudest moment is though when I became a big sister, that little boy have made me proud every day for almost 7 years now.

4. Which activities make you lose track of time?
When I‘m having a great time with my family and friends. Also when I‘m in the kitchen especially when I get into baking.

5. If somebody was describing your personality what would they say?
Very joyful, always lauhing, open, opmistic, honest, warm heart, helpful and down to earth girl.

6. What is something you know you do differently than the most other people?
I think few people do this but when I do my make up I‘ll put the mascara on first, before I do my eye makup/eye shadow. That‘s because when I put mascara on my eye lashes the skin around my eyes will be black and messy and I‘ll have to clean that up before. This is kinda funny because I‘m a beauty therapist and I can‘t put my mascara on without getting messy but fortunately I can put mascara on my customers without getting mascara all around.

7. Have you done anything memorable lately?
Yes, I finised my education from Snyrtiakademían as a beauty therapist. I‘m very proud of that because I finished with excellant grates. But every day is ofcourse memorable and now I have a very exciting time ahead which will definitely be one of the most memorable time of my life.

8. Which is worse, failing or never trying? Why?
I think never trying is worse. Because if you never try you never succeed. You learn from your fails and therefore failing helps you succeed.

9. If you could teach anyone anything, what would that be?
I would teach that everybody is equal and we should respect each other though we all are different. Remember to treat others like you want to be treated.

10. How do you define beauty? How will you prepare for Miss World to achieve your vision of beauty?
I‘ll define beauty as a person that not only have that outer beauty but also have an inner beauty that shines through. I think it‘s important that the person has a warm heart and a smile that warm others heart.
I will of course just be myself and to prepare I‘ll continue to live a healthy lifestyle, eat healthy, sleep enough and exercise well.

11. Share a message to your supporters and readers of The Times of Beauty.
I would love to say thank you for your support. Now I have a huge opportunity ahead, a dream coming true and I‘m looking forward to this life experience. If you have a dream you should work hard on making it come true and never give up.
