EL SALVADOR | 2012 Meet the Misses e.39 - NB El Salvador Mundo 2012

El Salvador is the smallest and most densely populated country in Central America. It is affectionately called as the Tom Thumb of the Americas since El Salvador also holds the distinction of being the smallest country in continental America. Its name in the indigenous language is Cuscatlán, which means land of jewels. Since the nation is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, several volcanoes are present in the nation and many of them enclose magnificent lakes. Notable volcanoes are Santa Ana, San Vicente, San Salvador, San Miguel, and Izalco. El Salvador's culture is a mix of cultures influenced by the Mayans, Lenca, Nahua, Ulúa and Spaniards. In recent times, El Salvador has become a surfer's spot, especially Punta Roca, which is the nation's most famous surfing spot. It happens to be one of the best right point breaks in the world. El Salvador is successfully overcoming its turbulent past marked by civil wars and instability and it is undergoing a rapid industrialization. El Salvador debuted in Miss World 1975 and competed until 1993. The nation returned in 2004 following an 11-year hiatus. This year, El Salvador will be represented by María Luisa Vicuña Zamorano, Nuestra Belleza El Salvador Mundo 2012.

The Times of Beauty proudly presents María Luisa Vicuña Zamorano, Nuestra Belleza El Salvador Mundo 2012, in an exclusive interview for our interview series, Meet the Misses.

1. Give us an introduction of yourself, your country and your hometown.
My name is Maria Luisa Vicuña, I have 18 years of age, I'm from the Sonsonate Department of El Salvador. I consider myself a dreamer who never stops fighting for her dreams. Since childhood I dreamed to be a representative of El Salvador as Nuestra Belleza. That's always been my dream. I always had faith in my potential and my qualities, and I've never taken my eyes off God.
I've always liked helping the needy and to devote time to sports, of course, fashion, glamour, etc. In Sonsonate there are not many opportunities for a career in modeling, neither in the capital, San Salvador. I have struggled to go through and open doors step by step in commercial modeling.
Then I had the opportunity to enter Nuestra Belleza El Salvador 2012, and in my mind I said "this is the opportunity to take a step to achieve my dreams." Everything takes effort and dedication, my schedule, moving from place to place, be on time for each of my activities and rehearsals, and never stop striving to be the best in college and other activities as my favorite sport which is basketball. My days start at 6:00 am until late at night. God gave me this wonderful opportunity to fulfill my dream and represent my beautiful country El Salvador, had I not fought, I would have never seen my dream come true.
My country El Salvador is beautiful, with amazing cultural places, beaches, lakes, volcanoes, towns, and traditions and above all very beautiful and helpful people who every day strives to get ahead. The name in the indigenous language is Cuscatlan, which means "land of jewels", the visitor finds jewels in it, the "Tom Thumb of America" in little words is wonderful, everything is close and there is no excuse not to know it completely.
Sonsonate is also a beautiful town full of many traditions, cultures and colonies precious beautiful beaches and very friendly and industrious people and always receive visitors with open arms.

2. What are your plans for the future?
Being a good employee, working in television, traveling to many countries to know more cultures, customs and languages. Make others know the culture and customs of my beautiful country.

3. What are you most proud of?
I am very proud to have achieved my dream of becoming Nuestra Belleza Mundo 2012 and to represent my country El Salvador abroad.

4. Which activities make you lose track of time?
Sometimes sports, mainly basketball that fascinates me. I like it so much that I lose track of time. I try to make every minute of my time and I have many activities during the day. When I finish the last task of my day, I see the clock and I cannot believe that the day ended.

5. If somebody was describing your personality what would they say?
They would say I'm very sentimental, tender, and very visionary, I never give up when faced with obstacles, no matter how difficult they are. I cling to the hands of God and go through obstacles because I know ahead of each of them is triumph and success.

6. What is something you know you do differently than the most other people?
What makes me different is that I always like to serve rather than be served. I love competition, I always like to win but if I don’t the satisfaction of the fight makes me happy. This attitude has helped me to accomplish many of my goals at this age.

7. Have you done anything memorable lately?
Yes, on one occasion I helped an elderly destitute, without family or friends. I assisted him in his illness and took him to hospital where sadly he passed, but I was always there with him until the last minute.

8. Which is worse, failing or never trying? Why?
I think the worst is never trying because the failures that come from trying are a result of bravery and courage and if we never take a risk to find our dreams we will never be able to reach them.

9. If you could teach anyone anything, what would that be?
What I would like to teach many people is to fight tirelessly to achieve their dreams and above all I would like to share that there is a loving God who is always there with open arms for us all.

10. How do you define beauty? How will you prepare for Miss World to achieve your vision of beauty?
Beauty is the reflection of each one of us, I am preparing physically and intellectually to represent Salvadoran women and all the great qualities that characterize us as a country.
