BULGARIA | 2012 Meet the Misses e.10 - Miss Bulgaria 2012

Bulgaria is located in Southeast Europe, in the northeast part of the Balkan Peninsula. It is a European, Balkan, Black Sea and Danube country. This geographic location places it on the crossroad between Europe, Asia and Africa. The territory of Bulgaria has been inhabited since antiquity, as the country’s many ancient settlements and burial mounds attest. Present-day Bulgaria was a cradle of some of the earliest civilizations in Europe – the oldest gold ornament ever discovered, unearthed in the Chalcholite necropolis near Varna, is evidence of that. From the age of Ancient Thrace we have inherited valuable cultural monuments, including tombs; treasures; and sanctuaries and temples. Its location on the transition line between two climate zones influences the climate, soils, vegetation and animal species. All of them are characterized by great diversity. Bulgaria's geographic position is between two climate zones. The Black and the Aegean Sea also influence the country’s climate. The influence of the Mediterranean is extensive for the climate in the southern parts of the country, while the Black Sea influences the climate supporting diverse flora and fauna. The Danube River is important for the country, both with regard to water resources and for species diversity. Bulgaria’s favorable geographic location creates excellent preconditions for the development of tourism. The face of Bulgaria in Miss World 2012 is Gabriela Valerieva Vasileva, Miss Bulgaria 2012, crowned on April 28.

The Times of Beauty proudly presents Gabriela Valerieva Vasileva, Miss Bulgaria 2012, in an exclusive interview for our interview series, Meet the Misses.

1. Give us an introduction of yourself, your country and your hometown.
My name is Gabriela Vasileva and I am from Bulgaria. I am 20 years old and I am studying Economics at University in the capital city of Bulgaria - Sofia. I love extreme activities like climbing, I enjoy hip-hop and I'm crazy about motorcycles. I was born in Byala Slatina - a small town in northwestern Bulgaria. My country has a unique nature, combines wonderful sea and high mountains, there are four seasons – in the winter you can ski and in the summer you can rest on the Black Sea. Bulgaria has a very ancient history and the many nations that have gone through its land throughout the centuries have left a bit of their culture and their genes. I wish all my foreign friends could visit it someday.

2. What are your plans for the future?
I intend to graduate with a master's degree and to begin developing in the field of Economics and Business, but it is in the distant future. For the present I want to devote myself seriously to my mission as Miss Bulgaria, I want to present successfully my country to the Miss World Contest in Ordos, China, which is a big responsibility for me. Also I would like to develop my cause, which is about prevention of drug addiction among young people. In the next year or so I want to accomplish very important aims by using fully my popularity as Miss Bulgaria in order to help more people.

3. What are you most proud of?
I am proud of the education given to me mostly by my mother, with my success in school, with honors - "The best student of the graduates", which I received when I finished school and, of course, the title Miss Bulgaria, in which I devoted a lot of work and all my heart.

4. Which activities make you lose track of time?
I enjoy reading an interesting book, going for a walk in the nature with friends or with my dog or watching my favorite sitcom ‘Friends’.

5. If somebody was describing your personality what would they say?
It depends on how well this person knows me. If a friend describes me they would say I'm very kind person, who takes care of the others, entertaining, because I love jokes, but I do not approve of cigarettes and alcohol.
To be more precise I’ve just call to one of my very good friends who told me that if I should be described in three words it would be: natural, positive and smiling.

6. What is something you know you do differently than the most other people?
I’m good at giving advices and talking sincerely with my little cousin. I’m so glad to be a good example for her. This is very valuable to me because I feel safe and able to teach her many important things.

7. Have you done anything memorable lately?

Yes, I won Miss Bulgaria Contest! This will completely change my life and this of my close ones too.

8. Which is worse, failing or never trying? Why?
There's nothing worse than not trying. I am a person of risk. The worst thing is if it is too late and you can only watch with regret of what you missed to do. I think that a person should follow their dreams, because there are no unfulfilled dreams, but abandoned wishes. As they say, if you not try - you will not succeed.

9. If you could teach anyone anything, what would that be?
I would teach people to spend time each day for them, either in the beginning or in the end of the day - five minutes, in which to analyze the day, another chance to smile, to see what we have done for ourselves or for someone else. I would teach people to stop for a moment with their activities and listen to their heart, to give power of their emotions, to dream all the time, because every person is as big as his dreams are. And never stop smiling, because no matter how hard the situation is, a smile always improves the mood and creates a comfort to those around us. Positive people provoke good reactions.

10. How do you define beauty? How will you prepare for Miss World to achieve your vision of beauty?
Beauty is the most subjective thing; it is different for each person. I'm glad I'm able to find beauty in everything, but definitely the best is when you discover the inner beauty in people.
For Miss World Contest I will take with myself a countless smiles that I would gladly give to everybody around me in difficult times. For a month this wonderful experience that will be for all of us can bring many emotions, but we always have to be prepared for difficulties. After all, this is a competition. Apart from this, my physical training is associated with the sport - going to the gym, dancing, climbing, and if I find a little time, I will make my body perfect with swimming.
