BONAIRE | 2012 Meet the Misses e.42 - Miss World Bonaire 2012

Bonaire is widely considered as one of the very best diving spots in the world, therefore it is known as the Divers Paradise. Bonaire is a special municipality of the Netherlands, it was part of the Netherlands Antilles until October 10, 2010. Despite its political status, Bonaire is a nation with a distinct heritage, culture and language. The economy is mostly based on tourism and it is catered for scuba divers and snorkelers. Bonaire has earned a reputation for being one of the most environmentally conscious islands in the Caribbean and is a leader in sustainable tourism. For them, it has become a tradition to understand the importance of nature and its conservation. The island developed a master plan to control the development of the island without harming its natural wonders ensuring sustainable growth while maintaining nature and the historical heritage of the island. Currently Bonaire has a total of five Ramsar Conservation Sites on the island. Klein Bonaire, offshore Bonaire's capital Kralendijk, is also included. Extensive areas of rural land are protected by law. The population is a mixture of more than 80 nationalities and ethnic backgrounds.  Most of the neighborhoods have centers where residents go for social and cultural gatherings. The island has a laid back, quiet atmosphere that visitors feel immediately. The official languages are Dutch and Papiamento. Papiamento is the language of the islanders that was born as a result of the linguistic interaction of Portuguese, Spanish, Dutch and West African languages. English and Spanish are widely spoken. Bonaire has sent a contestant twice to Miss World and for the first time in 1996. This year Ana Gisel Maciel, Miss World Bonaire 2012, will be the third contestant from Bonaire in Miss World .

The Times of Beauty proudly presents Ana Gisel Maciel, Miss World Bonaire 2012, in an exclusive interview for our interview series, Meet the Misses.

1. Give us an introduction of yourself, your country and your hometown.
Hello everyone, My name is Ana Maciel, I represent the beautiful island of Bonaire located in the Caribbean, known for its magnificent dive locations. I am 19 years old live in the city center of Bonaire called Kralendijk.  I’m a licensed social worker and everyday I strive to make the best of my life and the life of others that I help. I LOVE swimming, singing, cooking and I’m a very active person. My happiest times are when I'm sporting and volunteering in my country. I volunteer with an organization which protects the flora and fauna of my lovely island, I also educate children about the importance of protect nature. I dream of becoming Miss World 2012 so I can create a positive change in the world and help people who are not as blessed as we are. I have faith that I can do anything I put my mind to, so my ambition knows no bounds!"

2. What are your plans for the future?
Of course I would like to become Miss World and get the chance to work with the Miss World Organization promoting charity foundations in the world. I would also would like to study journalism and become a journalist in the future.

3. What are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of my family. My mom, dad and brother are always there for me. They influence me and teach me how to become the woman that I am today. For that I am very grateful and proud of them for being there for me at all times.

4. Which activities make you lose track of time?
Sports and swimming because it’s so relaxing and I’m enjoying myself doing it such as  Activities  including me preparing for the Miss World pageants also makes me loose track of time.

5. If somebody was describing your personality what would they say?
They would say that I’m a calm sweet girl who loves to help out. A girl with good manners and well educated and a fighter who fights for what she wants and believe in.

6. What is something you know you do differently than the most other people?
I think differently than most other people. I don’t put myself first but I put others before me. I think that by doing so I could try to make the lives of those  more pleasant. If I could help somebody then my living shall not be in vain.

7. Have you done anything memorable lately? 
Recently I pack up my bags and step into the big world on my own. I left my comfortable parents home for a place on my own to pursue my dreams and goals for the better future of tomorrow.

8. Which is worse, failing or never trying? Why?
Never trying because you’ll never know what could have been or where you might get lucky.

9. If you could teach anyone anything, what would that be?
The lesson I would like to teach is, that war is never the answer to our problems. History shows that nothing is ever solved with war or conflicts.
A skill I would love to teach is, the ability to see things from different perspective and to place yourself in someone else’s shoes. Don’t judge by only what you see, look further than your nose is.

10. How do you define beauty? How will you prepare for Miss World to achieve your vision of beauty?
Beauty is helping humanity, give a piece of yourself everyday to someone in the world. Beauty is also taking care of yourself physically, mentally and emotionally.

11. Share a message to your supporters and readers of The Times of Beauty.
Everyone in general has a purpose in life. no matter how small and insignificant it might be to you,  it’s important for others. don’t ever doubt on yourself, In case you just might look inside of yourself and you’ll find what you’re looking for.

Personal Motto: If you try you might, if you don’t you wont. The future is for those who believe they can.
Favorite Food: Fish with a typical corn bead. It’s the only seafood I can eat without getting a allergic reaction.
Favorite Color: Red, I love red. It’s the color of life and passion.
Favorite Song: I will always love you, by Whitney Houston. It’s a powerful ballad with great melody and lyrics. For me it means, love is universal and unending.
Favorite Movie: I love the Titanic. It’s one of the greatest movies of all time. A romantic love drama. Unfortunately it has a sad ending which makes it real because in reality there’s not always a good ending.
Favorite Book: I love to read the Bible.
Favorite Singer: I love Adele, she is a great singer with a good voice. The songs she choose to sing are great songs with lovely melodies and great meaningful lyrics.
Favorite Actor: Rowan Atkinson ( Mr Bean), he’s such a good actor with the ability to play comedy without being cheesy. He’s very convincing.
