BOLIVIA | 2012 Meet the Misses e.30 - Miss Mundo Bolivia 2012

Bolivia is one of the two landlocked countries in South America. The nation is named after Simón Bolivar, a leader in the Spanish American wars of independence. Many ecological zones are present in the Bolivian territory. The western highlands are located in the Andes Mountains and include the Bolivian Plateau. The eastern lowlands include portions of the Amazon rainforest and the Chaco Plain. Bolivia is widely known because of two of their natural wonders: Lake Titicaca and the Salar de Uyuni. Lake Titicaca sits over 3,800 meters above sea level between Bolivia and Peru and it is the largest lake in South America. The Salar de Uyuni is the world's largest salt flat. When covered with water, the Salar becomes one of the largest mirrors on Earth. Bolivia's ethnic distribution is 30% Quechua-speaking and 25% Aymara-speaking with more than half of the population being Amerindians. In 2009, a new constitution changed the country's name from the Republic of Bolivia to the Plurinational State of Bolivia in recognition of the multi-ethnic nature of the country. Major cities include La Paz, the administrative capital, Sucre, the constitutional capital and Santa Cruz de la Sierra, the city with the largest population. Bolivia debuted in Miss World 1960 and the last time it placed in the semifinals was in 2003. This year, Mariana García Mariaca, Miss Mundo Bolivia 2012, will represent her country in Ordos.

The Times of Beauty proudly presents Mariana García Mariaca, Miss Mundo Bolivia 2012, in an exclusive interview for our interview series, Meet the Misses.

1.    Give us an introduction of yourself, your country and your hometown.
I am the younger of two sisters. My parents are part of the police force. My initial education was in the Amor the Dios School.  I practiced basketball and volleyball. One of the best moments of my student period was participating in social activities. Nowadays, I am working on my thesis to become a get my license in Business Administration. I consider myself a very sensible person, everything around me affects me. I always think in how to be useful to my family and society.
My country Bolivia is in the heart of South America. It’s cultural and geographic diversity is one of the renowned features of the country. Bolivia is home of a multiplicity of ethnic group distributed throughout the nation, their languages are recognized which conform a total of 36. The gastronomic diversity attracts many to visit Bolivia. Tourists are also attracted by exotic landscapes from the snowy mountains in the Andes to the tropics in the east. The diversity of folkloric dances is recognized by the colorful dresses and happy music that are present in different carnivals throughout Bolivia.
My place of origin is the city of La Paz in northeast Bolivia. It is characterized by its topography, the majestic Illimani and the narrow streets from the colonial times.

2.    What are your plans for the future?
My plan for the future is be able to become an important image in activities of social impact in my department and all the country by participating in campaigns against violence in families and children and campaigns dedicated to the folklore of Bolivia. At the same time, I plan to conclude my studies at get my degree. After finishing my studies my objectives will be doing activities related to my profession and improve professionally. I would like to form my own family and have children.

3.    What are you most proud of?
I am proud of being from La Paz and represent an entire department that for years didn’t have an important beauty title such as Miss Bolivia Mundo. My highest pride is being able to carry the name of my country in a world event where I can showcase the physical and intellectual qualities of Bolivian women.

4.    Which activities make you lose track of time?
There are many activities that make me lose track of time. One of them is sharing with my family, reading and working on my thesis.

5.    If somebody was describing your personality what would they say?
They would say I am a very sincere and analytical person, stubborn with reaching my objective and very sensitive to happy and sad moments. They would also say that I am very helpful with children and an animal lover. They would add that I have a strong character and that I get upset when I don’t fulfill mil objectives in a planned manner.

6.    What is something you know you do differently than the most other people?
Not at all, I think I am a young woman with objectives and goals typical of Bolivian women. I aspire to develop professionally and be part of Bolivia’s progress. In a personal level, I strive to be a better human being so that people in the future remember me with love and esteem.
7.    Have you done anything memorable lately?
Yes. I am the first person from La Paz that wins the Miss Bolivia Mundo title.

8.    Which is worse, failing or never trying? Why?
It is worse to never try. When we fail, we learn and see what the motives of your failure were. In that way you learn a lesson for the future. If you don’t try, you don’t progress because good and bad experiences leave us knowledge that will help us to grow as human being and serve as example for others.

9.    If you could teach anyone anything, what would that be?
I would teach the value of loyalty because I think that by being loyal we can achieve our goals in an honest matter. Loyalty towards others shows how we are inside, especially during difficult moments. However, the most important thing is to be loyal with ourselves, be loyal with our values and principles, in this way, people, power, or money won’t be able to change the essence that constitute ourselves.

10.    How do you define beauty? How will you prepare for Miss World to achieve your vision of beauty?
I define beauty as a complex of integrated attributes that makes a person attractive. Being attractive is not about physical beauty alone, this attraction is possible by being an authentic person, irradiating physical and emotional health to others, in this way we cultivate inner beauty to become happy and share that happiness with others.
To achieve my vision of beauty I try to emphasize in everything that I consider weaknesses and improve everything that are my strengths. In this way I can find a balance that will make me able to reinforce my values. In the physical level, I prepare myself by getting habits that keep my mental and corporal energy balanced and improve my health.

11.    Share a message to your supporters and readers of The Times of Beauty.
I would like to send you my greetings and encourage you to find your happiness. Never stop dreaming and accompany those dreams with good deeds to others because life gives you what you deserve and life is short to waste it harming others.
