2011 Meet the Misses v.30 - A Szépségkirálynő 2011
Hungary is one of the oldest European countries, situated in the middle of the continent in Central Europe. Following a Celtic and a Roman period, the foundation of Hungary was laid in the late 9th century by the Hungarian ruler Árpád. The Kingdom of Hungary lasted for 946 years and at various points was regarded as one of the cultural centers of the Western world. After about 150 years of partial Ottoman occupation, Hungary was integrated into the Habsburg Monarchy, and later constituted half of the Austro-Hungarian dual monarchy. Hungarians speak a language and form a culture unlike any other in the region: this distinctiveness has been both a source of pride and an obstacle for more than 1100 years. The nation boasts one of the world's most beautiful cities: Budapest, the "Pearl of the Danube". Hungary is a place where 2000 year old Roman ruins and 400 year old Turkish monuments can be found side by side. It is a place where Central Europe's largest fresh water lake, Balaton, is located. The country is home to Lake Hévíz, the largest thermal water cave system and the second largest thermal lake in the world and Hortobágy, the largest natural grasslands in Europe. These features are part of the reason why Hungary is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Slightly more than one half of Hungary's landscape consists of flat to rolling plains of the Pannonian Basin most notably in the west and the southeast. Transdanubia is a primarily hilly region with a terrain varied by low mountains. The highest mountains of the country are located in the Carpathians. Hungary is divided in two by its main waterway, the Danube. Hungary has 10 national parks, 145 minor nature reserves and 35 landscape protection areas. Hungary has given the world numerous discoveries in physics, mathematics and science and it is the home of the Rubik's Cube. Hungary debuted in Miss World 1989 and this year the spectacular Linda Szunai, A Szépségkirálynő 2011, will try to bring Hungary to the finals of Miss World for the very first time.
The Times of Beauty proudly presents Linda Szunai, A Szépségkirálynő 2011, in an exclusive interview for our interview series, Meet the Misses.
1. Give us an introduction of yourself.
I am Linda Szunai, I live in Nagykovácsi, which is a wonderful small town right next to the capital of my country, Hungary. I am going to attend Peter Pázmány University of Law. I am interested in international and media law, I would like to choose this profession after my career in the beauty industry. I will start my studies with a one-year delay, since my duties as a beauty queen requires all my time and energy now.
2. Tell us a bit more about your country and hometown.
I was born in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, but I spent most of my life in Nagykovácsi. This area is surrounded by lovely green hills, forests and I spent much of my time out in the woods enjoying sunshine and nature. I love living here. I realized this when I spent four months abroad. I really missed my country and hometown and it was so refreshing and comforting to come back. I could not imagine my life anywhere else.
3. What does it mean to you to represent your country at the 61st Miss World finals?
I am a very patriotic person. I love Hungary and I take it as my mission to represent my home in Miss World 2011 and reflect all the beauty and love from the place where I come from. I know everybody say this, but I feel this a true honor to be delegated to a prestigious contest like Miss World and be able to show how wonderful Hungary and Hungarian people are.
4. If you have to choose a song to describe yourself, which would you choose and why?
My favorite song now is of a very famous Hungarian singer, called Caramel. He was an average boy with a tremendous voice and his life suddenly took a spin and instantly became the favorite of the country. He always sings from his heart. He is a man that works hard to realize and live his dreams and his songs touches my soul every time I listen to him. My favorite song is called Lélekdonor, soul donor. The song is about a situation that is difficult, but the song encourages to see the light in the future, work for it and be grateful for the gifts that you receive in return.
5. How would you describe a typical day in your life?
I wake up around 7-8 in the morning. I have just a short time to prepare for the day, I am really very busy nowadays. Luckily! There are lots of programs, TV and other media appearances, events, so I usually do not get home earlier than midnight. I try to be careful and pay attention on having a normal routine in my meals and my sleeping hours, do some sports whenever I can and find some time to relax. It is not always very easy :) but I love my life, love being a beauty queen, I could not change this for anything!
6. Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
Everything is changing now, lots of new opportunities come, so it would be very daring to predict the future. The thing that I am sure of is that I would like to have a family around 30. I hope that I am going to have a loving husband with me and settle in a warm and safe home for our children.
7. Which well known person from your country you most admire and why?
Zita Görög. She is a top model of Hungary. She is beautiful, very famous and very successful, but still very human and kind. I would like to be just like her :) She is a mother now, but still amazing and very popular.
8. If you had to choose any other country to live in, which one would you choose and why?
Other than Hungary? Maybe the USA. Somehow that country attracts me the most. I have never been there, but I would like to be there. It is very interesting and diverse.
9. After the Sendai Earthquake, nuclear energy has become a focus of attention. Are you in favor or against the use of this kind of energy as a way to reduce the dependence on oil?
Environmental protection is very important for me and for the whole Globe. I have been raised with an attitude to protect our nature and do all we can to prevent any catastrophes. I am in favor of solar power, the energy of wind and water. It would be very important to live in harmony with nature, to protect it and not to exploit. I hope all people will realize this and work for it in the future.
10. What do you think is the worst kind of human injustice or prejudice happening now?
I am afraid there are quite a lot these days. I am a very young girl and I know my own country the best and I can say that there are many people who cannot have a job and live in very hard conditions. Sometimes there are no opportunities around you even if you try very hard to do your best. This is very unjust.
11. What are your duties as Miss World Hungary?
Lots of media appearances. These can be sometimes specific, since I do lots of charity work. I became the ambassador of a foundation that works for human rights, I stand by an institution that fight against breast cancer, so it is very diverse. I participate in different events and naturally I prepare for the international contest!
12. What role can social media (ex. Facebook, Twitter, etc) play in the life of a beauty pageant titleholder?
It brings you closer to people. I really like this. People are so nice and supportive and in this way I can share all things that happen to me directly. It is great :)
13. What does it mean to be a human being?
Wow! For me it means that I can do a lot more things to help others and do good for our world. I am responsible for my surroundings and it is my duty to protect and to fill this with as much positive energy as I can.
14. What do you feel is your purpose in life?
Happiness, harmony and live a life which fulfills me. Have a balance and have no enemies. This means lots of work, but I hope I can make it.
15. Share a message to your supporters and readers of The Times of Beauty.
