2011 Meet the Misses v.20 - Nuestra Belleza El Salvador Mundo 2011

El Salvador is the smallest and most densely populated country in Central America. It is affectionately called as the Tom Thumb of the Americas since El Salvador also holds the distinction of being the smallest country in continental America. Its name in the indigenous language is Cuscatlán, which means land of jewels.
Since the nation is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, several volcanoes are present in the nation and many of them enclose magnificent lakes. Notable volcanoes are Santa Ana, San Vicente, San Salvador, San Miguel, and Izalco. El Salvador's culture is a mix of cultures influenced by the Mayans, Lenca, Nahua, Ulúa and Spaniards. In recent times, El Salvador has become a surfer's spot, especially Punta Roca, which is the nation's most famous surfing spot. It happens to be one of the best right point breaks in the world. El Salvador is successfully overcoming its turbulent past marked by civil wars and instability and it is undergoing a rapid industrialization. El Salvador debuted in Miss World 1975 and competed until 1993. The nation returned in 2004 following an 11-year hiatus. This year, El Salvador will be represented by Karen Marcela Castro Quintanilla, Nuestra Belleza El Salvador Mundo 2011.

2. Tell us a bit more about your country and hometown
When I talk about my country, its citizens are what make me most proud. I love every corner of El Salvador because it great versatility of places and climates. People are very warm and kind, always working hard to make this country a better one. I live in a gorgeous country with hard working people.

It is a great honor to represent my beautiful country, El Salvador.

4. If you have to choose a song to describe yourself, which would you choose and why?
I choose Hey Jude from The Beatles because it is a very motivating and positive song. I always try to be positive in every life situation.

5. How would you describe a typical day in your life?
On the morning, I go to college and spend time with my friends there. On the afternoons, I spend time with my family and I do different activities with my friends and family like going to a restaurant, go to the movies or go to church. What I like the most are the family reunions in the weekends, since I have a large family there is a lot to share and enjoy.

6. Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
I see myself happy, with my college degree and contributing to the tourism industry of my country. I see myself as a fulfilled woman that lived unforgettable experiences with a great family.

7. Which well known person from your country you most admire and why?
I admire Fernando Llort because I think he had successfully reflected himself on his paintings. His amazing talent and creativity is recognized on an international level. He is also recognized on a national level. Many times the saying that no one is a prophet in their own land is brought up, but I believe that Fernando Llort is a magnificent exception to that saying.

8. If you had to choose any other country to live in, which one would you choose and why?
I love my country and everything it has, but if I had to choose a country I would do it when I successfully complete my professional goals and it would have to be one where I can contribute with my knowledge and experience.

9. After the Sendai Earthquake, nuclear energy has become a focus of attention. Are you in favor or against the use of this kind of energy as a way to reduce the dependence on oil?
Technological advancements are beneficial when they don’t threaten life in general. The question is: Is it easier to control an oil spill or a radiation leak? Both are grave but radiation effects are worse for the environment, for humans and future generations. Human beings always find ways to advance science, but sometimes the consequences of those advances are severe and even uncontrollable even if the intentions were good. I am not in favor of nuclear energy because it can get out of control.

10. What do you think is the worst kind of human injustice or prejudice happening now?
The worst kind of injustice is famine and lack of education. Millions of children suffer because of they lack the most essential human needs and services to survive, grow and develop. If we invest in our children today, we will have productive adults and a more prosperous society.

I am preparing to the maximum because I am representing an entire country with the goal of making it shine internationally.

They are ways to facility direct communication with people that are following and supporting me. It is very nice and I love to be in contact with others. I like to interact and maintain them aware of my daily routines.

13. What does it mean to be a human being?
Being a human being is having the need to socialize by nature and experiencing the need of belonging to a family, a social group or a religious group.
