Why Miss France is not going to Miss World 2011?

Back in 1998, Société Miss France lost the Miss World franchise to Antoine de Villejoie after the Miss World Organization found out they were never getting the Miss France winner. The last delegate from Société Miss France was Véronique Caloc, runner-up of Miss France, who finished second in Miss World 1998. A separate Miss World France contest was held from 1999 to 2003. The license was subsequently awarded to Société Miss France again in 2004.

Ever since Société Miss France obtained the Miss World franchise in late 2004, they sent the winner of Miss France in 2005, 2007 and 2009. A runner-up went to the pageant in 2006, 2010 and now in 2011. In 2008, Laura Tanguy went to Miss Universe and Miss World because the winner of Miss France, Valérie Bègue, was barred from competing internationally. Miss World 2005, 2007 and 2009 were held in December while Miss World 2006, 2010 and 2011 were held before December.

Most of the Miss France regional pageants are held in the months of October and November. The 2011 Miss France regional finals will be held in the following dates:

August 5: Miss Roussillon
August 6 : Miss Languedoc
August 7: Miss Provence
August 8: Miss French Riviera
September 3: Miss Mayotte
September 5: Miss Corsica

September 18: Miss Limousin
September 24: Miss Poitou-Charentes
September 25: Miss Normandy
September 25 Miss Pays de la Loire
September 25: Miss Burgundy
October 1: Miss French Guiana
October 1: Miss Lorraine
October 2: Miss Alsace
October 7: Miss Midi-Pyrénées
October 8: Miss Aquitaine
October 9: Miss Centre
October 15: Miss Pays de Savoie
October 16: Miss Auvergne
October 22: Miss Nord-Pas-de-Calais
October 22: Miss Champagne-Ardenne
October 23: Miss Rhône-Alpes
October 26: Miss Brittany
October 28: Miss Franche-Comté
October 28: Miss Ile-de-France
October 30: Miss Picardy

By contractual obligations, Miss France has to attend the regional finals in metropolitan France. Miss France 2011, Laury Thilleman, will miss two regional finals in Mayotte and Corsica (marked in blue) while attending Miss Universe 2011 in Brazil.

If Miss France 2011 would attend Miss World 2011, she would miss several regional finals (marked in red). All of them in metropolitan France.

Therefore, Société Miss France decided to send a runner-up to Miss World because of schedule conflicts with the current Miss France, Laury Thilleman. The same situation happened last year with Malika Menard who was not able to go and Virginie Dechenaud went instead.

Clémence Marie Oleksy is the designated replacement and will represent France in Miss World 2011 in London next November. She finished third in Miss France 2011.
