Miss World 2010: Meet Miss Paraguay

Paraguay is the heart of South America, it is one of the two landlocked countries of the continent. The Paraguay River traverse the nation dividing the country in two distinct ecological and geological regions. The eastern region have grassy plains and wooden hills and the western region have low and marshy plains. The Guarani people have been living in Paraguay before the arrival of the Spaniards in the 16th century. Their dialect is widely spoken along with Spanish in the nation. Paraguay's past was characterized by political instability and devastating wars with their neighbors including the Triple Alliance War. Paraguay debuted in Miss World back in 1959 and produced one semifinalist in 1985. Egni Analía Almirón Eckert is the representative from this nation in Miss World 2010 after being elected Miss Mundo Paraguay 2010 last July. proudly presents Miss Mundo Paraguay 2010 in an exclusive interview for our series Meet the Misses.

1. Give us an introduction of yourself.
Hello! It is for me a great satisfaction to meet all of you wonderful people! My name is Egni Eckert, I am 22 years old and I represent the brave guarani nation, Paraguay. Currently I am an optician and a commercial advertising model. Furthermore, I like to share my free time with those persons who I love. I desire to participate of this contest to try and change the banal concept that many people have about beauty queens.

2. Tell us a bit more about your country and hometown
I born in Asuncion, the capital of my beautiful country Paraguay. It is located in the center of South America and therefore it is known as “The Heart of South America”. Paraguay is divided into two regions with well-differentiated soil and climate, located on both sides of the Paraguay River, which crosses the territory from north to south. The western (Occidental) region or Paraguayan Chaco (Part of the Great South American Chaco) and the eastern (Oriental) region, where most of the country’s population live where its capital Asuncion, one of the oldest cities in South America, is located. Paraguay a landlocked country of more than 6 million people, has a mostly racially mixed or mestizo population, and maintains until these days the richness of bilingualism, being Guarani the first language for most Paraguayans. 1.7% of the population are indigenous; there are 17 different original peoples throughout the country, settled in the majority in the Chaco. Its two principal economical activities are the cow farm activity and the agricultural cultivations. My city Asuncion is seated on a slightly uneven territory. One singularity of my home town Asuncion is a key area for the preservation of bird species, given the rich diversity that arrives to the Bay and the San Miguel bank as the stop in their migration routes. The records of bird species sightings in the country’s capital, close to 300, make it unique in the Americas.

Beauty with a Purpose mean for me that a beauty queen must use her beauty not only to appear in the media and to come up to parties and glamorous events but to help the needy people in the world since is more easy for a beauty queen to move the media, to organize fund raising activities and to call the doors of the humanitarian organizations and foundations to get support and assistance. This gives gives a real and praiseworthy purpose to her beauty.
