Miss World 2010: Meet Miss Lithuania

Lithuania is a country in Northern Europe and the southernmost of the three Baltic states. During the 14th century, Lithuania was once the largest country in Europe when present-day Belarus, Ukraine, and parts of Poland and Russia were territories of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. After 1940, Lithuania was occupied first by the Soviet Union and then by Nazi Germany but as World War II neared its end, the Soviet Union reoccupied Lithuania. On 1990, Lithuania became the first Soviet republic to declare its independence.
The Lithuanian landscape has been smoothed by glaciers. The highest areas are in the western uplands and eastern highlands, with the maximum elevation being Aukštojas Hill. The terrain features numerous lakes and wetlands. A mixed forest zone covers nearly 33% of the country.  Lithuania’s capital city, Vilnius, has been rapidly transformed and the town has emerged as a modern European city. The nation debuted in Miss World back in 1993 and they have not yet produced a semifinalist. In 2007, they sent Jurgita Jurkutė who was a favorite during the pageant and one of the most beautiful contestants that year. This year, Lithuania will be represented by Gritė Maruškevičiūtė who won the Mis Lietuva 2010 title in September. proudly presents Mis Lietuva 2010 in an exclusive interview for our series Meet the Misses.

1. Give us an introduction of yourself.
I'm Gritė Maruškevičiūtė, 21 years old. I'm studying law and management at University. I'm interested in extreme, make up, psychology, philosophy, self-improvement and traveling.

2. Tell us a bit more about your country and hometown.
Lithuania is a wonderful country, with its beautiful sea, rivers and lakes. With its green woods and fields full of flowers, birds and butterflies. I'm happy to feel all its beauty! It's the land of linen and amber.
My hometown is Vilnius, the capital city of Lithuania. It's old, unique and full of narrow streets and spirits of art.

3. What does it mean to you to represent your country at Miss World?
I feel so happy to represent my country at Miss World. I am responsible to do it in the best way. I hope my small, but very nice country will be really noticed.

4. What preparations have you done so far or will you do for the Miss World final?
Well, I think, the best preparation is good mood and sincere smile. I've had only three weeks to prepare, but I've done everything I could. I did my best in presenting my folk dance and national costume. I got a lot of advice and lessons for my life.

5. If you have to describe yourself in one word, what would it be and why?
Warm. This word contains sincerity, kindness, inner beauty. I'd like all people to be like this.

6. Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
I see myself to have graduated from university, to have visited a lot of different countries of the world, to have met many interesting people. I hope, I will have a nice family and do what I want.

7. Would you prefer being beautiful and rich or poor and smart?
What do we call “beautiful”? For me, a smart person is a beautiful person. Of course, the best combination is harmony of all these things: inner beauty, wisdom, authenticity and kind eyes.

8. Which well known person from your country you most admire and why?
It's not necessary to be famous so that people could admire you. My mother inspires me, because she is very charming, optimistic and has sincere smile.

9. If you had to choose any other country to live in, which one would you choose and why?
If I had a possibility, I would like to live in many countries of the world and do it for a short time. There are lots of wonderful places and cultures in the world.

10. What do you think is the biggest problem facing the world today and what should be done about it?
I think most people have lost their values and virtues, because of our material world. People should ask themselves if they feel happy living in that way.

11. Do you believe a beauty queen should be politically correct when answering a controversial subject question or should she express her personal views on the issue?
I believe, a beauty queen should be politically correct according to her personal view.

12. What do you most look forward to about the Miss World Festival?

To learn more about Eastern culture, its people, get more lessons for my life.

13. The winner of Miss World will be the 60th Miss World. Which former winner do you most admire and why?
It's hard to say, because I don't them personally. But all them are amazing ladies.

14. The motto of Miss World is Beauty with a Purpose. What does Beauty with a Purpose mean to you?

I think, beautiful people can join others to do good deals.

I'm a person, so I believe that some day everything will change.
I'm a person, so I dream! Because only dreams give me wings and bring me to a world plenty of happiness…
I'm a person, so I fail, but I am able to overcome defeat.
I'm a person, so I proud of my own success. I invest in it my work, my time and my hopes.
I'm a person, so I yearn. I feel affection for my beloved people.
I'm a person, so I get angry for things that I don't like.
